Duthie Park

Duthie Park is a park of 44 acres which was donated to the city by Miss Duthie in 1880 and opened to the public in 1883.

The park has many artefacts including a bandstand, fountains, ponds, and statues. Within the park is the Winter Gardens, which were rebuilt in 1970. These house many exotic plants including the largest collection of cacti in Britain. This is a park for all the family, with activities from boating in the ponds to cricket on the lawns.

Duthie Park, Polmuir Road, Aberdeen

Opening Times: 8.00am until 1 hour before dusk.

The Winter Gardens open 9.30am to 6.30pm in the summer and 9.30am to 3.30pm in the winter. The park has cricket on the lawns, bands in the park in summer, and the ponds are to be refurbished if the City receives heritage lottery funding. There are two children's play areas, a cafe with toilets and toilets within the Winter Gardens.

 

Hazlehead Park

A park of over 180 hectares, which was originally part of the freedom lands granted to the city in 1319.  The land fell into private ownership but was bought back by the council in 1920.  

This park is on the outskirts of Aberdeen and is heavily wooded.  It is popular with sports enthusiasts, walkers, naturalists and picnickers. Around the park are football pitches, a golf course, pitch and putt course and woods for walking.  The park itself has rose gardens, azalea & rhododendron borders, heather beds, a children's play area and a pets’ corner.

The park has a significant collection of sculpture by a range of artists and heritage items which have been rescued from various places within the city.

Hazlehead park, Hazlehead Avenue, Aberdeen

Opening Times: 8.00am until 1 hour before dusk.  The pets corner is open 10.00am to 6.00pm in the summer time and 10.00am to 3.00pm in the winter time.

The park contains 2 golf courses, a pitch and putt, football fields, a large children's play area, 2 rose gardens, heather beds, and an Azalea & Rhododdendron beds. There is also a maze in this park.

 

Victoria Park

A five-hectare park opened to the public in 1871. It is a beautiful park, full of flowers, shrubs and trees. There is a conservatory used as a seating area for inclement weather and a small glasshouse feature during the summer months. In the centre of the park is a fountain made of 14 different granites, presented to the people by the granite polishers and master builders of Aberdeen.

The park contains a glasshouse with alpine plants, summer bedding, a fountain, and a garden for the disabled.

 

Westburn Park

A park of 10 hectares, opposite Victoria Park on the other side of Westburn Road. This spacious park caters for football and tennis, has a children's cycle track and a play area, and is known for its excellent grass bowls facility. An open section of the Gilcomston Burn(a local stream) runs through the park and modelled water features have been added to it.  The popular Westburn Lounge within the park provides refreshment for visitors.

The park contains all weather surface, grass & indoor tennis facilities, 3 bowling greens, a pond, burn and large open grass areas.

 

Seaton Park

This 27-hectare park lies to the north of the city and was purchased by the Council in 1947 from Major Hay. Beside the park's south gates stand the fortified towers of St Machar's Cathedral. There are many fine areas in the park from the flowerbeds to the rose beds and up to the walled garden beside the old stables, which have been converted for housing.

The Cathedral Walk is always a resplendent sight in midsummer and one of the most popular with visitors to the city. Seaton Park is also an access point for the River Don and a walk has been established from the park to the city boundary.

The park has a children's play area, large open spaces, a formal garden and a fountain..
There is a toilet in the park.

 

Beach/Queens Links

Aberdeen Beach is a well-loved and extremely popular recreational area of the city. Only a short distance from the city centre, the beach is visited by holiday makers and city residents all year round. The area is well provided with sporting and recreational facilities, including the Beach Leisure Centre and the Lynx Ice Arena, cafes, restaurants and a fun fair. In recent years the beach area has seen the addition of a multiplex cinema, a nightclub and other attractions.

Opening Times: this area is not enclosed.

The park forms the whole open space along the sea front, it includes the beach itself, golf course, football pitches and large open spaces along with a bowling green. There are toilets in this area.
